A Snapshot of Your Day
As Release Train Engineer (RTE) you are the operational lead of our Steam Turbine New Unit Agile Release Train (ART) - around 100 people from design, engineering, validation, industrialization and product management, working together across several sites in Europe and beyond.
You keep development flowing across these disciplines and locations, make our cadence and events count and turn strategy into predictable delivery. You are the person who sees the whole train, anticipates where it will slow down and clears the track before it becomes a problem.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Plan and facilitate PI Planning end-to-end and run ART Sync, System Demos and Inspect & Adapt, so that alignment and transparency work even across distributed teams and time zones
- Together with Product Management and Business Owners, keeping the ART backlog aligned to portfolio priorities and translate a complex hardware roadmap into commitments the teams can actually deliver
- Making delivery predictable by tracking progress against real outcomes - the System Demo, not status slides - and by managing risks and dependencies across the value stream from concept to industrialization
- Keeping the flow moving by maintaining the ART Kanban, making work-in-progress visible, using flow metrics such as predictability and flow time to spot bottlenecks early and resolving or escalating impediments decisively
- Coaching teams, Product Management, System Architects and Business Owners - not by prescribing process but by asking the right questions and building an environment where problems surface early and openly
- Driving continuous improvement through Inspect & Adapt, communities of practice and the Lean-Agile Center of Excellence (LACE) and creating data-based transparency on ART health for leadership decision
What You Bring
- An engineering or technical degree is welcome - we weigh demonstrated experience, mindset and results at least as highly
- Several years of hands-on experience as a Release Train Engineer, having led an Agile Release Train through multiple Program Increments - not theory, but demonstrated delivery
- Experience in physical product, engineering or industrial development environments and an understanding of their realities: long lead times, prototypes and testing, supplier and manufacturing dependencies, hardware/software interplay
- Strong practical command of SAFe and Lean-Agile ways of working, ideally backed by a SAFe RTE or SPC certification, combined with a data-driven mindset for flow and delivery metrics
- Strong facilitation skills and leadership without authority: you align large, distributed groups, steer difficult conversations and gain commitment across functions, sites and cultures
- Fluency in German and English, ease in an international, multi-site engineering environment, and a willingness to travel between locations as needed
