PhD Dissertation - Biopharmaceuticals

The purpose of this PhD studentship is to investigate the propensity of protein-based biopharmaceuticals to aggregate. Aggregation is one of the major pathways of degradation for proteins during storage and processing and is, therefore, a key indicator for the robustness of a formulation and process.

This studenship will be funded for a period of three years and the aim will be to support and increase the understanding of product robustness to operational conditions. The study will use stress models during processes such as Formulation, Filtration, Transfer and Filling. The work will be supported by an external collaborator who will model the aggregation mechanism and process. The external collaborator (an expert firm) will act as consultants and collaborate with the successful candidate to develop mechanistic models to estimate the propensity of proteins to aggregate.
