(Senior) Test & Integration Engineer for UDS & OBD (m/f/d)

Our software can already be found in Volkswagen ID. models and will soon power Audi and Porsche vehicles with the E3 1.2 platform in 2024.

You are working in the area of "Architecture & Cross-Cutting Technologies". At CARIAD we are the backbone of mobility and constitute the interface to vehicle mechatronics in the Volkswagen Group. Our organization spearheads the transformation from a traditional manufacturing company to a software-driven tech player. In doing so, we enable innovations from the vehicle to the off-board as the basis for future applications ranging from climate control to infotainment and autonomous driving. In your job, you will work in agile teams and contribute to the development of the next generation of E/E and software architecture. All architectures require in-vehicle diagnostics and on-board diagnostics. These are more service-oriented, exposed to digital business processes and legal authorities in the EU, China and USA than ever before: In the near future vehicles will behave like web-servers offering services to different classes of clients - classic ones, like production and garage, and new ones serving data-driven digital business models and customer care like remote services, over-the-air-update and re-configuration of the vehicle on the fly and individual for every consumer of individual mobility solutions. Your team enables these use-cases and business models with platform functions, tools & infrastructure components. To deliver on a predictable and fast-paced schedule over the full lifecycle of the vehicles of the brands of the Volkswagen Group we continue to grow our operational excellence and skills in test and integration of in-vehicle diagnostics from automatic reviews of configuration files to verification & validation of compositions of electronic control units & web-services and data-driven monitoring & alerting for our deployments. A large part of our share in the stack is the unified diagnostic services (UDS) and on-board diagnostics (OBD). Here, a vacancy has arisen for a talented software-engineer in test & integration of UDS & OBD.


  • Lead test-management for your part of the share in the diagnostic stack, the UDS- and part of the OBD-platform functions and automotive protocols deployed in 20+ diagnostic servers distributed in the brands of the Volkswagen Group
  • Guide the automation of software and system testing for your share of the diagnostic stack and contribute to the growth of operational excellence by operating a CI/CD for vehicle diagnostics, resulting in safe and stable deployment and high availability of services in the development, production and service of our vehicles
  • Lead boards with the developers from the ECU-Organization to ensure problems are understood, repeatable in test-environments and tangible solutions are developed with efficiency
  • Steer a "shift-left" approach: Find ways to automate reviews of code and configuration of diagnostic servers to minimize efforts in testing on hardware and speed up the software lifecycle
  • Be a stakeholder for implementation of features in our diagnostic test system and drive the test-driven development culture for UDS & OBD!
  • Be data-driven and do not tolerate manual work


  • Master degree in software & systems engineering (for example computer sciences, electrical engineering, physics) or similar qualification
  • Basic skills in coding in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Python, Matlab & Simulink
  • Ability to enjoy to automate everything, from report generation to data-merging and integration of tools
  • Experience with UDS, OBD and Testing of Automotive Control Units, preferably testing of low level software, protocols and device drivers
  • ISTQB Certified Tester Qualification and / or ISTQB Certified Testmanager Qualification or ability to display experience in software- and system-testing in an automotive context
  • Negotiation, active listening & communication skills
  • Fluent language skills in English and German
  • Nice to have: Experience with Configuration of AUTOSAR Basic Software with tools provided by Elektrobit or Vector Informatik
